How do Posts Get Sent to the Spam & Moderation Queues

Spam Queue:

Posts will be sent to the Spam queue by the Akismet, Stop Forum Spam and Reactions add-ons.

  • Akismet feeds your posts through the Akismet spam detection algorythm which looks at several factors including live data to determine if a post is spam.
  • StopForumSpam checks users against a list of reported spammers and will report posts as spam or reject them outright. The threshold for reporting and rejection can be set in the plugin’s settings.
  • Reactions: There is also a Spam Flag that comes with the Reactions plugin.

Reactions

  • Any user that has a role with the Add>Flag permission will be able to flag a post as Spam.
  • It takes 5 members to report a post as spam to have it sent to the Spam queue.
  • If you have the Manage>Curation permission, and you flag a post as Spam, it is immediately moved to the spam queue.

Each entry in the Spam queue contains the following information:

  • Flagged by: The Add-on or user that flagged the post
  • Content: The test that was flagged as spam
  • Type: The type of content that was flagged - discussion, comment, registration
  • Date: When the post was flagged
  • Posted by: The user responsible for the flagged content
  • Link: If the post is still live on the forum there will be an arrow acting as a link to the post. If there is no arrow, it means the post is not live on the forum and there is no link.

Moderators and Administrators will review posts in the spam queue to determine if the post should be deleted or published. To do this select the post(s) using the checkboxes on the left hand side and select "Spam" or "Not Spam."

If a post is marked as Spam, the content is deleted but you also have the option of banning the user and deleting their content.

If the post is marked as "Not Spam" the post will be published and you will be given the option of verifying the user.

Verifying a user allows them to bypass spam checks

Posts are sent to the moderation queue our Keyword Blocker and Reactions add-ons, as well as pre-moderation role permission.

  • You are able to set up a role for pre-moderation, through roles & permissions. Enabling the Require>Approval permission for a specific role means that all of the posts from this user group will be sent to the moderation queue for review before it is published on the forums.
  • The Keyword Blocker This allows you to set a list of words and strings that will automatically be flagged for moderation if they are used.
  • Reactions: There is also the Abuse Flag that comes with the Reactions plugin.
